Van has lived in Texarkana since 1966, graduated Liberty Eylau High School, and attended Oklahoma State University before coming back to Texarkana and joining his parents in the business. He is a Graduate Gemologist, GIA, and a Certified Gemologist Appraiser, AGS.
Van is a member of First Baptist Church Texarkana, served on the Texarkana, Texas City Council from 1997-2006, was Mayor Pro Tem for 2 terms, and currently serves as chairman of the City of Texarkana Budget Advisory Committee.
